Steve Madden’s net worth is estimated at roughly $145 million to $300 million in 2026. The low end is what his last disclosed stake in Steven Madden Ltd., plus stock granted to him since, is worth at the October 29, 2026 close of $44.93 a share. The high end is the $300 million that Celebrity Net Worth published as of October 30, 2026, an aggregator figure with no published method, so treat it as unverified. Neither Forbes nor Bloomberg tracks him.

The gap exists because Madden stopped having to report his holdings in 2023. What’s left is a paper trail of SEC filings, an employment contract that runs to 2031, and a 1990s fraud case that still shapes how people search for him.

Steve Madden net worth: what his shares are worth

Madden’s wealth is mostly his company’s stock. His most recent ownership filing, a Schedule 13D/A dated August 17, 2023, showed 3,691,547 shares, or 4.82%. That filing also showed he’d sold 296,893 shares at about $34 to $35 that month, which pushed him under the 5% line where updates are required.

Here’s that stake valued at the October 29, 2026 close of $44.93 (MarketScreener), plus restricted stock the company has granted him since, per its 2024 and 2026 filings.

HoldingSharesValue at $44.93
Held directly (Aug 2023 filing)1,523,449$68.4 million
Restricted stock (Aug 2023 filing)986,848$44.3 million
Restricted grants since (Jan 2024, FY2025 and Jan 2026; 2026 proxy, SM Agreement)474,729 plus the Jan 2026 grantAbout $31 million ($21.3M plus $10M at grant value)
Subtotal without options2,985,026 plus the Jan 2026 grantAbout $145 million
Options (Aug 2023 filing, at face value)1,181,250Up to $53.1 million

Options are worth less than face value because he’d have to pay the strike price to use them, so about $197 million is a ceiling for the stock alone. And because he’s neither a director nor an officer, he may not have to file trades at all. Any sales since 2023 wouldn’t show up.

To reach $300 million, Madden would need well over $100 million in cash, property and investments outside the company. That’s possible after three decades of share sales, but no filing documents it. He held 6,196,836 shares (7.3%) in June 2020, so he has clearly been selling down.

How Steve Madden made his money

Madden started the business in 1990 with $1,100, he told CNBC in 2016. It was incorporated in New York that July and went public in December 1993, according to the company’s latest 10-K.

Today it’s a $2.53 billion-revenue company. Steve Madden reported $2,534.1 million of revenue for 2025, up 11%, and $44.7 million of GAAP net income in its February 25, 2026 results. That’s company money, not his.

Wholesale footwear brought in 40.9% of 2025 revenue, wholesale accessories and apparel 25.3%, direct-to-consumer 33.4% and licensing 0.5%, per the 10-K. The company also bought London’s Kurt Geiger in May 2025, agreed at an enterprise value of about £289 million.

His pay package

Madden’s title is Founder and Creative and Design Chief. Under the company’s 2026 proxy, his 2025 base salary was $7,026,042, plus restricted stock worth $10 million a year for 2024 to 2026 and options on at least 225,000 shares a year.

He accepted a 10% salary cut from May 1, 2025, as tariffs hit the business, and full pay resumed on January 1, 2026. His contract runs to December 31, 2031, with salary rising to $7,746,211 from 2029 and a $35 million payment if he’s fired without cause around a change of control.

Compare that with the deal he took after his conviction: a non-executive role at $700,000 a year through 2011, per the company’s 2002 annual report. His base pay is now ten times that.

How much did Jordan Belfort make off of Steve Madden?

No official record says. The SEC found that Stratton Oakmont underwrote the December 1993 IPO and manipulated it with Madden’s knowledge. Belfort, Stratton’s president, secretly kept shares through a sham transfer to BOCAP, a company Madden owned, to get around a 4.9% ownership limit.

The SEC’s releases give no dollar figure for Belfort’s or Stratton’s profit. The big numbers you’ll see online trace back to The Wolf of Wall Street and Belfort’s own memoir, not to any filing. Our Jordan Belfort net worth breakdown covers what he kept.

Madden’s own account is smaller-scale. In his 2020 memoir, as reviewed by Bloomberg, he said flipping IPO shares made him a quick twenty to forty grand per deal.

What the case cost Madden

The SEC charged him in June 2000 over the manipulation of 22 IPOs between 1991 and 1997. His May 2001 settlement included a seven-year bar from serving as an officer or director of a public company and $7,820,465 in disgorgement, interest and penalties, according to the SEC.

His criminal plea added a $3 million forfeiture, CNN Money reported in May 2001. That’s roughly $10.8 million in combined payments. He was sentenced to 41 months in April 2002, began serving that September and was released in 2005 after 31 months, per CNBC.

Does Steve Madden still own the company?

Not in any controlling sense. Steven Madden Ltd. is publicly traded, and Madden’s last disclosed stake was under 5%. He doesn’t appear in the ownership tables of the 2026 proxy, which had a record date of March 27, 2026, because he’s below 5% and isn’t a director or executive officer.

There’s no dual-class structure keeping the founder in charge, unlike the Knight family’s grip on Nike through special voting shares (see who owns Nike). Madden’s influence comes from his design role and contract, not his votes. Day to day, the company is run by CEO Ed Rosenfeld, who holds 1.45% per the same proxy.

How much is the Steve Madden brand worth?

The whole company was worth about $3.29 billion at the October 29, 2026 close: 73,177,095 shares outstanding (per its July 2026 10-Q) times $44.93. Madden’s last disclosed 4.82% would be about $160 million of that, which lines up with the stake math above.

The business is growing again. Second-quarter 2026 revenue rose 19.1% to $665.9 million, and the company raised its full-year growth forecast to 11% to 13% on July 30, 2026.

The next marker is November 5, 2026, when third-quarter results are due. For Madden personally, every 10% move in the share price shifts his paper wealth by roughly $14 million to $20 million.
